Our Story
Momaan Maronron began as a joke - a softball team formed by queer Marshallese individuals in Springdale, Arkansas, simply for fun and community during an annual Marshallese Independence Day celebration. What started on the field quickly became something much bigger.
The name Momaan Maronron, is a prestigious title given only to the first born male in a Marshallese family. It translates to “powerful men,” for us, the name became a reclaiming - redefining power, leadership, and visibility through a queer lens.
When our founder returned to Arkansas in April 2025, the team was preparing to compete in the annual May Day sporting event. It was during this time that a deeper truth became impossible to ignore: queer Marshallese individuals in Northwest Arkansas were being left behind - lacking access to culturally relevant sex education, job opportunities, medical care, and safe spaces.
Momaan Maronron Inc. was created to change that.
What began as a softball team evolved into a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting, educating, and advocating for queer Marshallese communities in Northwest Arkansas and beyond.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower queer Marshallese individuals through culturally responsive education, community engagement, advocacy, and access to essential resources.
We work to close gaps in health education, employment opportunities, and community support while creating spaces where queer Marshallese people feel seen, respected, and celebrated - both on and off the field.
